Alfredo Villela considers himself to be part of a newly emerging movement he has come to term Syncretism. His music follows in the tradition of repetitious cycles exploited by Minimalists such as Steve Reich and Philip Glass, but broadening the choice of textures and harmonies (following inner exploration, there is a need to project outwardly).

Prior to graduating from Berklee College of Music, where he studied film scoring and music synthesis under Dr. Richard Boulanger, he worked as studio director at Brown University with Tod Winkler at the laboratories of electronic music. He also composed and produced the entirety of the music for Caminantes, a CD-Rom about the southeastern region of Mexico. For this project, Dr. Thomas L. Rhea played the EVI and Mark Plati masterized the music. For four years worked as director of the Spanish Department at MOTU one of the leading music software developers world wide based in Cambridge Massachusetts.

He has also worked as production assistant with Don Christensen at Looking Glass Studios in the production of the music score for the film Candy Man II, composed by Philip Glass. He has studied music from the time he was 5 years old at different prestigious institutions both in Mexico and the United States.

In 2005 he created two independent companies: Mixcoacalli and Musecycle, one a publishing-sample library- production independent company and the other a multimedia venture. In addition he is member of The Light Tribe a multi-media collective based in Florida.

Alfredo is currently collaborating with Allison Sniffin in a three movement composition called "Hear me With Your Eyes" based on poems by Sor Juan Ines de la Cruz, commissioned by the Melodia Women's Choir conducted by Cynthia Powell; both members of Meredith Monk multitalented group. He co-produced Tami Machnai one of the singers of the opera Ainadamar composed and directed by Osvaldo Golijov.

He also is the house master drummer for Starseed a healing wellness center at the heart of Montclair center, NJ where he uses pre- Hispanic drums as music therapy tools. Over the years Alfredo has master the art of performing Nahuatl “Aztec” instruments. He often lectures and perform Mesoamerican music in schools and museums.
